Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) and Chris Watson (born in Paris). After moving to Oxfordshire when she was five, she enrolled in The Dragon School. From the age of six Emma was aware that she wanted to become an actress. For some time she attended the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theatre school in which she was taught the art of acting and dancing. She had already performed in numerous Stagecoach as well as school plays when she was ten years old. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone is the film from 2001 adaptation from J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was announced in 1999. Emma was found by agents via the recommendation of her Oxford teacher. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone, as well as Ron Weasley told Emma after eight auditions that she had been cast in these roles. She was cast alongside Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. Emma's first film role was as a part of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in the year 2001. The film broke records for beginning-day and weekend-opening sales and was the highest-grossing film of the year 2001. Critics have praised both the film, as well as the performances by the three main young actors. The Daily Telegraph, an influential British newspaper, praised Emma's acting "amazing". Emma won the Young Artist Award as the Leading Young Actress for an Feature Film. She was later nominated five times for her performance in the film.
